We are hiring for a full time Peer Support Counselor in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The CHARTER Peer Support Counselor provides a variety of clinical services to residents at Central City Apartments, a Permanent Supportive Housing placement for individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. These clinical services range from general support, crisis intervention and de-escalation practices, behavior management sessions, life skills groups, developing service plans, and importantly, peer support services. This role requires strong collaborative skills, as they work within a multidisciplinary team and coordinate care with community partners. The overall goals of this position are to (a) provide high-quality care for residents, (b) provide a high level of customer service for community partners, funders, and other stakeholders, (c) provide support for the clinical and housing support staff, and (d) work to increase resident retention at Central City Apartments. All duties are to be performed within the SUDC scope of practice as defined by DOPL and Utah Law and the Peer Support Specialist scope of practice, as defined by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services. Duties may be performed under the clinical supervision of an assigned clinical supervisor, and other appropriately licensed supervisors.

  • Pay Ranges from $58,000 - 61,000 per year

Education & Experience:

  • Substance Use Discover Counselor license required
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification required
  • Experience in both substance use & mental health fields preferred

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Provides at total of approximately $5,000 of billable services each month.
  • Conducting daily groups and individual support and counseling sessions.
  • Assists Housing Support Staff in managing the milieu during weekend and evening hours, including mental health and behavior management, resident de-escalation, and assistance in emergency situations.
  • Helps oversee compliance with all building and program rules
  • Provides support to clinical staff, in being familiar with the core modalities that are used within CHARTER Supportive Living Services.
  • Assists in monitoring each resident's overall wellbeing and addresses problems as they arise.
  • Utilizes other software programs as needed (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Maintains organizational expectations for clinical productivity.
  • Attends all relevant employee training classes and clinical staff meetings.
  • Provides transportation to residents for individual appointments or group events
  • Collaborates and consults with supervisors, treatment-team members, community partners, and other relevant parties concerning clinical issues.
